Bazhan Nahnybida

a high student from a small town in Southwestern Canada. I'm a big enjoyer of art in all its forms. Visual arts are important for me because I want to create attractive designs for advertising and websites.

When I create art, I feel at ease and peaceful. I'm not a very good artist yet, but I really do enjoy it. Especially projects that I wanted to make, and was forced to make in this class.

What I discovered in this class is that simple art like sketching is very cool. I discovered that sketching allowed me to be original without worrying about colors/canvases/and other things. Simplicity and freedom is what I like.

Valentyna

Realistic portraiture of my sister. I found a picture of my sister, split it into a grid, then split the canvas into a proportional to the photo's grid. Then I drew the lines in every square one by one. After the lines were done I started shading. The fun part was shading. Slowly making areas darker until they look just right is very engaging. The part I wasn't sure about was the hair. I didn't know what to do about the hair, I stopped thinking and then just drew a lotta lines and it looked decent.

Drone warfare

This is my culminating project. The topic is romanticism, the movement that emphasizes emotion and individualism and many other things. I drew a soldier on a field looking on the sunrise from the perspective of a kamikaze drone flying toward the soldier. I thought my idea fits the topic because it shows how heartless modern warfare is. It always was heartless, but it used to be you take someone's life or your life gets taken. Now soldiers are fighting $300 drones, they risk their lifes but can do absolutely no damage. The hard part was immitating the lense of a camera, I wanted to make it look 'wider' on the sides, but I sorta messed up the whole perspective. There was no fun part, the project was just a bunch of repetition.

Flowers

This is an attempt on a realistic colored pencil drawing of flowers. Drawing with colored pencils is very fun, this was my first time in a long time, and there is a lot to improve. Obviously there is a lot of white in this drawing, I should've kept adding layers until there are not as many white.

Glass cups

This is a white on black crystal glass drawing. This was a fun project. Drawing with pencil wasn't too good because I couldn't shade anything, it was either gray or black, nothing in between. This probably would be my favorite project because it's all about slow shading over and over again. The hard part was making it look straight, not wobbly like mine turned out. I should've taken breaks and looked at the entire piece. Instead I focused on small areas and together the small areas look weird relatively to each other.

Guilt

This is a bigger pencil drawing. My idea was to have one hand that's giving flowers, and multiple other hands that are taking flowers. I wanted to show the feeling of guilt, but really the drawing can fit any interpretation. Initially I was very excited because after I finished the lines the drawing looked really good. Then after coloring the flowers I was even more excited, I really liked it. But then I felt my perfectionism kick in, and I became afraid to finish it. I took a lot of time, and on the due date when I found out only flowers need to be colored, I quickly shaded the hands and didn't like it anymore. Overall, coloring the flowers was really fun, I mixed red and blue to make richer red, I mixed red and orange in some places to make red look brighter, and I mixed red blue and green at the bottoms of the flowers to make them look dark and pale.

Tree

This is a tree statue from cut out pieces of a plastic cup. This was the first project, I put maximum effort into it. I wanted to make perfect circle tree. I wanted to cut the plastic cup into long strips. The strips needed to be cut in a way that together they could form circles of different sizes. For example, the green part of the tree is the bigger circle, the brown part is a smaller circle. So the strip had to be wider where the circle is bigger, and thinner where the circle is smaller. After cutting the strips of right dimensions, I glued them together, forming the tree. Then I took my moms acrylic pen and painted the tree. I think it turned out pretty good, I wish I made the colors a bit darker. I also should have kept some plastic pieces to close the hole at the top.

Valentyna

I used watercolor paint on a paper.

Neurographic art a technique, which comprises drawing freeform lines or neuro lines. These are meant to enable the connection between the conscious and unconscious, gaining access to the inner self by using a specific algorithm or method.

I utilized the principles of Color and Emphasis to bring out her vibrant personality and highlight her key features. The use of bold and contrasting colors creates a dynamic energy.

I should use more colors and add more detail to the lines next time.

Fun fact: I'm such a good brother that I will never show this to my sister.

Statue

On this painting I used cyrillic paint with a canvas.

Landscape painting caputers mood and athmosphere of a place. Artists use different principles of art, styles, and techniques to do that.

In my painting I mostly used Balance and Emphasis to portray the bigness of the statue.

I used the newly developed "angleonism" style. To fully grasp the beauty of this art piece, it has to be turned upside down and looked at at 45 degree angle. Click to reveal the true potential of this painting.

Untidiness

I used colored pencils and paper.

Still life aims to create a drawing of an exact copy of some objects that you see. The piece was intended to show my skills of drawing realistically with pencils.

I utilized Emphasis and Color to highlight the violin, my favorite musical instrument. I strategically barely used any color for any objects because they don't deserve to stand out when a violin is in the picture. Violin is, obviously, the emphasis by being the biggest and the best object of all the other.

Now that I'm a little better with pencils, I'm confident that next time I will do better with coloring.

Fillmore mini

I used cyrillic and a metal toy car.

I painted on a car, trying to immitate a modert artist called William Morris. William Morris paints beautiful flower patterns.

I utilized principles of Pattern and Balance in this piece. The flowers repeated is pattern, equally the same two sides is balance.

I was aiming to make this bright, pretty, light, design that brings happiness and ease of mind. It turned out a little darker than expected, but still the result was not as bad as expected.
